Blurring Boundaries: My Apple Vision Pro Experience in the first 24 hours

It was 4:50 AM on January 19th, 2024, when I briefly awoke and thought — if I stay up for just another 10 minutes I could pre-order the Apple Vision Pro. So, with eyes half-open and the classic wake-up look, I reached for my iPhone, scanned my face for a perfect fit, and completed the transaction via Apple Pay. At 5:03 AM I got an order confirmation and nearly $4,000 lighter, I was back in the realm of sleep.
This moment highlighted how seamlessly and effortlessly technology lets us splurge — a topic for another day.

Come launch day, February 2nd, and my Vision Pro arrived. The unboxing was an experience in itself, leading to an immediate impression: the display quality was superior to anything I’d experienced, including the Meta Quest 2 and 3. This reinforced the importance of a high-quality display in such devices.

Diving into VisionOS, Apple’s dedicated operating system for the headset, opened up a world of possibilities. From watching movies on Apple TV+ and Disney+ to scrolling through panoramic images in the Photos app, the experience was almost transportive. The immersive spatial videos designed for Vision Pro were a standout, blending digital content seamlessly into my physical space.

The real test came when I connected my MacBook Pro M3 Max to the Vision Pro. Writing this article, I used my MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad, but the display was entirely virtual, floating in a lunar landscape. This setup showcased the blending of physical and digital worlds, allowing me to adjust the immersion level as desired.
